The 20 faces of the Cullen twins gang jailed for 185 years

It was a story we had covered extensively during the court case - The Cullen twins gang jailed for 185 years.

Anthony and Leon Cullen ran a "sophisticated" operation that collapsed when police recovered a large quantity of drugs, cash and illegal weapons, including an AK47, three hand guns and a silencer.

The notorious gang were brought down in court too with 20 men being sent to jail.

Our talented reporters had touched on every aspect of their criminal enterprise, the police investigation that brought them down and the explosive court case that saw he gang jailed for almost two centuries.

While on shift, and noticing that many of the stories were still reaching massive numbers of readers, I began to think of of how we could capitalise on the interest.

One thing we hadn't managed to do was show our audience every member of the gang that was jailed as a number were low level drug dealers and runners whose contribution was focused on in the other articles we had published.

I decided that the best way to get another line out of the story was to put together all of the mugshots into a photo story and show our readers every member that was involved.

We normally use photo stories to illustrate large events or even weather pictures so this was a brand new take on a feature we have used countless times.

The result was a innovative new way to tell a crime story through multimedia and digital tools.
