Do you want Twitter to increase the character limit?

Twitter's character limit has always been a hot topic among social media users.

Up until very recently, users could only tweet 140 characters in each tweet which sparked calls for the platform to up the limit.

Rumours circulated on social media for a long time that creators were planning on doubling the character limit to 280 characters.

This was huge news for Twitter users if true and when the company rolled out trials to a small pool of people, the dream became a reality.

#CharacterLimit quickly began trending on the platform and I was quick to turn this trend into page views for the ECHO.

I did this through the use of SEO terms such as "Twitter", "character limit" and "280" but also decided that we needed to find a unique way to engage readers with the story alongside them just reading about it.

I noticed that some people, albeit a small amount, were opposed to the idea so decided to create a poll within the article to allow our readers to have their say on the new update.

This received a great reaction and thousands of people who read the story also engaged with the tool.

Doing this gave me scope to write a second story on what people thought about the new feature, thus increasing engagement and page views on the topic.
