Late in the evening I received a tip off that a huge emergency service response had been called to Manchester Arena after reports of "explosions".
Due to the amount of people discussing the incident on social media and thousands searching Google and the Liverpool ECHO site for updates, I decided we should set up a live blog so that our site could be one of the first outlets with all the latest information throughout the night.
I ran the live blog alongside my colleague into the early hours of the morning bringing in thousands of page views before the day team started.
Due to the constant updates on the blog we were were of the first news outlets to confirm that the incident was a terror attack on an Ariana Grande concert and that 22 people had sadly died.
Over the next few days the same blog was used to cover vigils and any updates that came from the ongoing investigation.
Running the live blog on the night of the incident and through the coming days gave me vital experience in leading the coverage of a national incident.
We used images of the scenes and videos of the vigils to help tell the tragic story in new and innovative ways.
I also changed the headline of the blog multiple times through the night and the following days to make sure that anyone searching for updates on each new line would be directed to our blog on Google.
Our readership wanted to know the latest information on this incident as soon as we had it and we were able to meet those demands through this live blog.
