Through my consistent use and interest of the Liverpool ECHO's social media channels I was quickly alerted to a large emergency service presence on one of the city's most well known streets.
Residents on Falkner Street had contacted us after being evacuated from their homes over a suspected gas leak.
I was able to arrive at the scene within minutes and begin to provide updates from the cordon.
This included taking pictures and video and editing them together to fill the blog with multimedia that best showed the scale of the incident.
Covering this incident in this way showed how effective a live blog can be in providing such a large audience with the latest breaking news.
The incident went on for multiple hours and running the blog meant the Liverpool ECHO was able to keep on top of the latest lines and information coming from the scene.
We were aware other publications were also briefly at the scene but they left, believing it to just be a gas leak.
It was later revealed that the body of a woman and three children were recovered from the house and a man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
As a result of our live blog, our audience knew they could rely on us for the latest in breaking news around the city.
