When the ECHO received a tip off about a murder in Belle Vale on October 7, 2018 I was quick to react with setting up a live blog.
The news team were extremely busy covering the Giants in Liverpool on the day which meant it was up to me solely to run the live blog and the blog's output on social media.
As a reporter made their way to the scene on Cornwood Close, I made sure the blog was optimised for search as dozens of people were already discussing the incident on social media.
The news would travel quickly and it was important that we had information on our website so that when people began searching Google, we would be there to provide them with updates.
Getting the blog pushed out on social media was also a priority.
It was an intricate process to try not to conflict with the positive news going on in the city but also making sure that readers saw the posts as it is extremely important to inform people in the area of breaking news and in this case, a murder investigation.
The system worked well and the tragic news and the coverage from the blog brought over 60,000 pageviews onto the site in less than eight hours.
The coverage of the live blog was sensitive and did not interfere with the team's coverage of the Giants which was read by millions over that weekend and the next few weeks.
